Community Safety Message: Increase in Vehicle Theft Reports

We have seen an increase in reports of vehicle thefts and attempted vehicle thefts within the local area.

Reports indicate that offenders have been seen riding a motorised bike and concealing their identities by wearing balaclavas. We would like to remind residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police immediately.

Crime Prevention Advice

To help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of vehicle crime:

Always lock your vehicle, even if leaving it unattended for a short period.

Remove all valuables from view, including bags, phones, wallets, and sat navs.

Keep vehicle keys away from doors, windows, and letterboxes where possible.

Consider using a steering wheel lock or additional vehicle security devices.

If your vehicle has keyless entry, store keys in a signal-blocking pouch when not in use.

Ensure any vehicle tracking systems or alarms are activated and functioning correctly.

Park in well-lit areas where possible.

Doorbell and CCTV Cameras

Residents with doorbell cameras or CCTV systems are asked to ensure their devices are fully charged, operational, and positioned correctly. Footage from these systems can be invaluable in identifying offenders and supporting investigations.

If you witness suspicious behaviour, individuals attempting vehicle door handles, or persons acting suspiciously around parked vehicles, please report it via 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.

By remaining vigilant and taking simple preventative measures, we can work together to reduce opportunities for vehicle crime within our community.
